Role-play Example:There was darkness and then there was this.
It was like nothing Kabili had ever experienced before, such a complete and utter absence of light. Wither his eyes were open or closed it was all the same, as dark as a cloudless night with your eyes shut. He couldn’t remember the time when there was no unnatural light to keep away the dark, couldn’t remember the first few weeks of his life when everything was black.
Just coming out of the deepest sleep of his life he was groggy and the time it took to fully understand his surroundings was longer than it should have been. The darkness was the first thing he noticed, sending a chill along his spine that made his fur stand on end. The second was the lack of space.
He was lying on his side with both his feet and his back pressed against something solid, his ears and tail brushing against the adjacent sides. Just as he began to realize how cramped he really was he was suddenly sent flying upward, crashing back down just as quickly with a soft yelp of surprise. Slowly and carefully, still not entirely functional, he tried to get some better footing. As soon as he had rolled unto his belly he was thrown into the side of the cage by some unknown circumstance, his head hitting the hard wall and dazing him briefly.
The constant jostling could be endured though he grew increasing frightened with each new bump or turn. Soon enough he learned it was better to lie on his side in the position he had started. The bumps still sent him flying into the air but at least he wasn’t sliding around the small enclosure. Conciseness came and went, the drugs that still circulated in his veins making him sleepy, though he awakened with a start at each bump in the road.
Sometime during the trip, after being awoken by yet another disturbance, he noticed the device secured around his neck. It wasn’t heavy, just uncomfortable, and it made his neck itch something fierce. It smelled of home, of two-legs, the only home he had ever known. It comforted him but at the same time it made him nervous. These two conflicting feelings were almost too much to for Bili to handle and he pushed the device out of his thoughts and drifted back to sleep.
From the time he had first awoke to the time when whatever was transporting him finally came to a stop was no longer than an hour, though it felt like much shorter to the sleepy dog. The absence of motion woke him up for the final time and he got to his feet, trying to wrap his dazed mind around what was happening. There was a mixture of sounds: two-legs talking in their incomprehensible language along with the sliding, slamming and dropping of unknown objects. This went on for some time while the wild dog grew restless, turning around and around inside his cage, stopping only when a sound caught his attention.
Just when he thought the jostling was over it started again, though this time it was quickly over. His paws almost slid out from under him as he was pushed back, his cage being pulled forward by the voices just outside. Next he was lifted up, sliding every which way as he tried to gain balance, and gently placed on a lower, uneven surface. And then it was done.
As he stood there trying to regain his composure a light appeared at the very bottom of his cage, illuminating the plastic contraption that he had been in the past several hours. His eyes squinted at the sudden brightness that gradually made its way to the top of the cage as he tried to see what was beyond his confinement. He could only vaguely make out the yellow of the grass and the blue of the sky and of course the light that radiated from the sun.
WHAM!
Startled by the sudden noise directly behind him, Bili dashed forward, out of his cage and into the light. He ran through the grass, not stopping until his muscles protested and his lungs burned from the lack of oxygen. He couldn’t run as far or as fast as those of had spent their whole lives in the wild but he could go far enough. He looked over his shoulder, watching as the two-legs cheered and mingled before packing up the remainder of their equipment and driving away. His head tipped to the side in confusion and he turned his gaze back to the direction his paws were pointing.
Was this.. Could I.. Where are the fences? Taking a step forward he began his journey, feeling a weight lifting off of his shoulders and out of his heart as he left his old existence behind and began a brand new life in this brand new place.
